At the Lower Austrian Provincial Exhibition 2017, everything revolved around the topic of law at Pöggstall Castle in the southern Waldviertel. Five chapters looked at the development of jurisprudence, from the historical context to current issues. Together with the cultural mediation team, an intensive exchange took place with relevant questions on the topics of law and justice, closely linked to the objects, representations and stagings of the exhibition.
An interactive touch wall was used for the first time at a Lower Austria state exhibition: when hands touched the wall with fixed illustrations, sensors were activated which then set animations in motion.
Together with the local municipality of Pöggstall, a further 22 municipalities had grown together over the years of preparation up to the opening on March 31, 2017 to form the “Southern Waldviertel” provincial exhibition region. This coming together of people, which was clearly noticeable throughout the 2017 season, has produced many highlights in the Southern Waldviertel. 32 specially trained nature educators were not only at work at the Waldviertel stations, but also developed innovative offers. 85 regional partner businesses from the Southern Waldviertel prepared together and ultimately hosted 228,501 visitors to the Lower Austria State Exhibition.
“With the aim of securing a region's quality of life in the long term, sustainable investments are made in the respective exhibition region in order to strengthen the region beyond the exhibition year, both economically and in terms of its self-confidence,” said Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
Ensuring accessibility both physically and in terms of content was a particular concern of the Lower Austria State Exhibition 2017. Thanks to universal design, the “Alles was Recht ist” exhibition and the special exhibition “Schloss Pöggstall - zwischen Region und Kaiserhof” can be experienced by everyone. The special exhibition will be preserved and will continue to tell the many stories of Pöggstall Castle in the future: since its construction 770 years ago, it has changed hands several times and from 2017 will be comprehensively and carefully restored to its original splendor.
